Uniondale, N.Y. – October 14, 2015 – Openlink, the global leader in trading and risk management solutions to the energy, commodities, corporate, and financial services industries, has established a mentoring program for young children in Long Island, N.Y. through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.
Through the program, up to 20 students from Uniondale Middle School visit Openlink’s corporate headquarters every other Wednesday to meet with selected employees who volunteer to mentor the students. These students receive help with homework, play interactive games, learn about the workplace and receive one on one mentoring from employees at Openlink.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters is an outstanding organization,” said Rich Grossi, Executive Vice President of Global Operations and Support at Openlink. “They are fully invested in every relationship, ensuring that the children of this program receive positive role models to help them realize their endless potential. Openlink is very proud to partner with them and help our own employees grow through mentorship.” Grossi noted that Openlink believes it is important for its employees to be engaged with their local communities and this program has not only helped employees give back but also grow and learn from these children.
“It’s truly amazing to watch these relationships transform,” said Mark Cox, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. He noted that site-based programs of the kind Openlink initiated are important for young children, who get exposed to a positive work environment during their visits. He said that children that get one-on-one mentoring are more likely to do better in school and less likely to engage in risky behaviour. Openlink’s program enables the group to provide more positive experiences for children in need. “It’s been a perfect fit and it’s been great for us,” he added.
